Minimally Invasive Surgery

About Minimally Invasive Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery, is a surgical procedure that is performed with small 5 mm or 10 mm incisions in which ports are placed into the abdominal cavity. By using specialized instruments, a camera, and working through the ports, complicated operations are now able to be performed. These procedures are performed in an identical fashion to an open procedure carrying the benefit of less pain and a faster recovery.
The high-definition camera transmits a clear view of the operating field to a monitor above the operating table and the surgeon can then manipulate the specially made scalpel, stitching device, and other tools without a large incision placed through the abdominal muscles.
